"Finding Love at Pride"

Three years ago, we met at our first Pride festival as a couple. We had both been attending Pride individually for years, but 2022 was special – it was the first time we attended together, newly engaged and ready to celebrate our love openly.

"I remember feeling so overwhelmed with joy," recalls Jamie. "Not just because of our relationship, but seeing thousands of people celebrating love in all its forms. It felt like coming home."

Riley adds, "Pride isn't just a party for us – it's a reminder of how far we've come as individuals and as a community. When we see young people at Pride for the first time, we remember that feeling of belonging."

This year, they're volunteering with the Pride organizing committee, helping to create that same sense of belonging for others.

"Coming Out at 65"

"It's never too late to live your truth. After 40 years of marriage and raising three children, I finally had the courage to come out as a lesbian. My family's love and support reminded me that authenticity is always worth it." - Margaret K.

"Finding Community Online"

"Living in a small town, I thought I was alone. Online LGBTQ+ communities became my lifeline, and eventually led me to find local friends who became my chosen family." - Alex T.

"From Struggle to Strength"

"My transition journey hasn't been easy, but the support from this community has been incredible. Every challenge made me stronger, and now I mentor other trans youth navigating their own paths." - Casey M.

Words of Wisdom from Our Community

"Your authenticity is your superpower. The world needs exactly who you are." - Taylor, 28, Activist
"Found family isn't a consolation prize – it's a chosen celebration of love." - Morgan, 34, Teacher
"Pride isn't just about celebration – it's about visibility, resistance, and hope." - River, 45, Healthcare Worker

The Power of Community Support

Research consistently shows that LGBTQ+ individuals with strong community connections have better mental health outcomes. Support groups, both in-person and virtual, provide safe spaces to share experiences, learn coping strategies, and build lasting friendships.

"Finding my support group was life-changing," shares Jordan, a regular attendee of the weekly youth group. "Having people who understand your experiences without explanation is incredibly healing."

Mental Health Matters

Mental health challenges disproportionately affect LGBTQ+ individuals, but support is available. Don't hesitate to reach out to LGBTQ+-affirming therapists who understand the unique challenges our community faces.

  • LGBTQ+ National Hotline: 1-888-843-4564
  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
  • Trevor Project (Youth): 1-866-488-7386

Physical Health

Finding healthcare providers who are knowledgeable and affirming is crucial. Look for providers who have experience with LGBTQ+ health needs and create inclusive environments.

  • Ask about provider's LGBTQ+ training
  • Look for inclusive intake forms
  • Check if staff use correct pronouns
  • Research clinic's non-discrimination policies

Support Groups

Regular support group meetings provide ongoing community connection and peer support. Various groups focus on different needs and identities within our community.

Weekly Groups:

  • LGBTQ+ Youth (Ages 14-24) - Tuesdays 6PM
  • Trans Support Circle - Thursdays 7PM
  • Coming Out Later in Life - Saturdays 2PM
  • LGBTQ+ Parents & Families - First Sunday 3PM

Self-Care Strategies

Taking care of yourself isn't selfish – it's necessary. Here are some community-recommended self-care practices:

  • Set boundaries with unsupportive people
  • Practice daily affirmations
  • Connect with nature regularly
  • Engage in creative expression
  • Maintain relationships with supportive friends
  • Celebrate small victories
